Dec 2017 Exxaro

Words can’t express the gratitude I feel when I think about what you have achieved this year for Exxaro and the Projects team. The sacrifices you and your family have made to ensure our success in 2017, are invaluable. We could not have done it without you.

We achieved impressive safety performances on most of our projects. I cannot commend our safety performance without thanking the front-line construction supervisors and SHE teams for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. With only three overall LTIs recorded for the year, I’m extremely thankful to you. However, each injury is regrettable and therefore I urge all Projects employees to always pursue zero harm in all you do. “Safety always, all the way!”.

At this stage, we are in construction on the New Rapid Load Out Station, Grootegeluk 6 Expansion, Belfast, Thabametsi Phase 1, Leeuwpan Life Extension and the Exxaro Lakeside Development. All these projects are currently on schedule and within cost. I am fully confident that the Project Managers and their teams (including suppliers, consultants and contractors) will do their best to make us successful in 2018 and beyond.

To drive projects with purpose, we need a unique strength, one which lies in our ability to create efficiencies that will enable the business to generate new production capacity. With our projects, we are in a fortunate space to create hope for many stakeholders in South Africa. I can only commend the Board and Executive Committee for taking the bold step of investing R20 billion to grow our coal business. With all the challenges and change facing us, some would choose to sit and wait but Exxaro decided to invest. This investment will challenge our skills, knowledge and energies. But, it is a good challenge; one we are prepared to take on. We will do it with one purpose, one direction, one plan and by working as one team. Only then, can we turn the impossible into the possible.

To the Exxaro Steercom, internal departments, as well as employees, contractors and consultants of Projects, thank you for your dedication and commitment to our success.

Some of you are the first in and the last out at your offices on most days. Some of you go to your workplace on the weekends to ensure that you can deliver on time and on target. Some of you do more than is required and go much further than is expected. Don’t for a moment think that it goes unnoticed. Without such dedication, Exxaro Projects would not be where it is today.

I hope I can help you to dream more, learn more, do more and become more in 2018.

May God bless and keep you all.

Season’s Greetings
